Firsts

Today is a day of firsts for Brian. He had his first blowout at church, and we were so glad he had extra clothes in his bag! It was also his first bite of cereal and first time in the exersaucer. Whew!
Brian did great with the cereal. It wasn't much, but I didn't want to go overboard on his first try. He ate it all, but was ready for more to eat, so he wasn't very happy at the end. Kayleigh wanted to feed him, so I let her give him a couple of bites. I don't think I got a video of Kayleigh taking her first bites of food; I'm glad I got it with Brian. Sorry if the video is a little shaky. Sometimes I forget about the camera.
Kayleigh also decided to try Brian's cereal. She did NOT like it!!

Brian is 4 months old!

It's amazing how fast a month can go by. Brian is growing and changing all the time. Some of the more notable things are:
--He's losing his hair (and so am I!)
--He can hold his head up better and can now sit in his Bumbo.
--He smiles all the time now, and it's getting easier to make him laugh.
--He wears 9 month clothes. He seemed to skip the 6-9 month size, which is sad because there are so many clothes that he didn't get to wear! It's also crazy to me that he's wearing the same size clothes as babies twice his age.
--He's starting to drool a lot (YUCK), but realized last night that he can blow some fun raspberries with that drool!
--Brian is working hard on rolling over. He doesn't have it down yet, but he will arch his back and you just want to help him get that last little bit so he can roll over! A couple of Brian's friends have rolled from stomach to back first, but Brian is working on going from back to stomach.

We are going to try some rice cereal soon. We'll see if he still has the gag reflex, or if he can eat it. I kind of hope that he can eat the cereal and that it'll help him sleep longer through the night, although I read a study recently that said that feeding babies cereal doesn't necessarily make them sleep longer through the night. The article was actually talking about putting cereal into a bottle, but I have a feeling it might transfer to cereal in a bowl.

Lions and Tigers and Bears!!!

Oh my! Okay, that's a lie. Out of those three options, we only saw lions today. The circus is back in town, and like LAST YEAR, we went to visit our friend, Erick, and check out the animals. This year, we saw lions, an elephant, a horse and 3 mini horses. Kayleigh loved seeing them, and would roar at the lions, trying to get them to talk back to her.
We were able to get close enough to the horse to pet it's nose. Amy was the first one to take Kayleigh close to the horse, and I was a little surprised when Kayleigh wanted to pet it. Usually she's brave from far away, but will get shy up close. She has said that she wants to pet the horse that lives close to our house, but she hasn't gotten an chance to yet. I think she definitely will now!

Random thoughts:
Kayleigh told me, and later Erick, that her Daddy Jim said, "Don't pet the lions, just wave at them."
The one elephant was out, being taped for the news. I don't think Kayleigh could fully appreciate its size, but she still liked looking at it.

Thanks Aunt Val!

Aunt Val sent some nail polish to Kayleigh and we got it today. Kayleigh was supposed to get it for Christmas, but unfortunately, it was left at her house. Kayleigh opened her present when she woke up from her nap and immediately wanted her toes painted. When she learned that she could have her fingernails painted, too, she told me she wanted me to paint them as well. I am crossing my fingers that having nail polish on her fingers will help encourage her to NOT bite her nails. She started that habit about a year ago. It was funny because I realized one day that I hadn't been cutting Kayleigh's finernails as often as I used to, and then saw her biting her nails. I have no idea how to get her to stop! Oh, as you look through the pictures, it will be helpful to know that she asked me to paint one hand pink, and the other one has a clear coat with sparkles. As expected, Erik said that he would like for me to paint all of her fingers the same color. :)

Dinner prayer

Kayleigh learned this prayer while at day care, and has recently decided that she wants to say it every night at dinner. I've wanted to get a video of it for some time now, and finally got it last night.

Take a look at me

Here are a couple of slide shows of different pictures I've gotten of the kids. I was able to have one-on-one time with each of them this week while the other was sleeping. Brian was pretty happy today, and I got his best smile right before he took a bath this afternoon. It's so much fun watching him grow! He's starting to smile more and laugh some, although it's still hard to get a laugh out of him right now. I WILL get a video of it soon! He seems to be camera shy...I have a feeling it's because he knows a bright light is going to flash!

Cooking with Mommy

Kayleigh got a cute apron set from a friend of ours, and I thought last night would be a good night to break it in. Erik and I were having our friends Erick and Amy over for dinner, and I wanted to make cornbread muffins. She put on her apron and held her oven mitt and stood for a picture. Then, I got her up on the kitchen counter and she helped me pour the cornbread mix into a bowl. She helped me pour the milk into the bowl, and amazingly it all got in there! I thought with the way she dumped the measuring cup over that it would be a mess for sure! She couldn't stir the mixture, so she let me do that. I think she really wanted to use her oven mitt, but the fact that she's not even long enough to reach into the oven in the first place was a big clue that she's not old enough to be around the hot stuff! She'll just have to wait a few more years for that next step in helping me in the kitchen. For now, she'll have to be content to use the oven in her own kitchen!
